On 7th of March, we woke up around 5:45 a.m. and took a train at 6:45 a.m. to Poprad-Tatry. Then, we took another train to Starý Smokovec. On the way, the landscapes went from the grassy plains to the mountains with snow. It was very exciting because in our home it doesn’t snow very often. When we arrived at Starý Smokovec it was cold (about 3 or 4°C).

To keep us warm we walked around 1 hour in snow. Beware of sleds going downhill. We took lot of photos of the landscape and we met other Erasmus students.

At the top, we visited two domes where there were ice sculptures. In the first dome there was Notre Dame de Tatras which was a replica of Notre Dame de Paris.

To go down, there was 2 possibilities : by foot or by sledge. On the way, beware of snowballs flying in all directions! Once arrived below, we ate typical meal before to take another train to Štrbské Pleso.

The continuation of our journey is in the article “Hiking in High Tatras #2”.
