The 13th of March, a beautiful day, we decided to visit another monument of Žilina : the Church of Saint Stephen the King. After some difficulties to find the way until the Church, we saw far ahead the building and its bell tower.
This Church is one of the oldest preserved monuments. It was built in the first half of the 13th century. In the 17th century, a wall was built to shelter the Church. It was named after the deacon Saint Stephen. He lived in the beginning of the 1st century and is known to have taken care of the widows and the poor people by giving them food. That is why we can see a statue of him holding a loaf of bread. When he was alive, he had many enemies because he was a great speaker. There were a lot of people who followed him and Jesus. His enemies decided to draw up a plan to kill Saint Stephen, he died after a speech and became the first Martyr of the Roman Catholic Church.
After some researches and restorations during the second half of the 20th century and the 21st century, we can admire the monument as it is in these photos.
