From 25th February to 30th June 2020, we are going to study in the University of Žilina at the Faculty of Security Engineering. Žilina takes place on the north of Slovakia and lies near three rivers : the Vah, the Kysuca and the Rajčianka. This town is one of the bigger towns of the Slovak Republic. In fact, Žilina is the fourth largest city in Slovakia and there are approximately 90 000 inhabitants.
This city has the particularity to be in the middle of wonderful mountains and has many castles, religious monuments and folk villages near to it, which making it a key point for tourism.
Moreover, the numerous events held in the city as the carnival, the Medieval Day, the Folklore festival or the cultural summer make Žilina very dynamic and touristic.
Now let’s talk about our future university.
The university of Žilina has many faculties: operation and economics of transport and communications, mechanical, electrical, civil, security engineering, management science and informatics and humanities. There is also a research institute of high mountain biology. As you can see, this is a very big university and it counts approximately 8000 students!
The faculty of Security Engineering, where we are going to study, is situated near the centre of the city. From our housing to this faculty, we will only have a 15 minutes’ walk.
Finally, what are the different student organisations ? There are many different organisations as the radio club, the Gama club, ŽUŽO which is the school paper, Stavbár – Traditional Folklore Group or IAESTE which welcomes Erasmus students. The students life is very developed and it will be a real opportunity to try new things, thanks to those organizations.
